LIGHTNING LAPS
and Greased Lightning Finish
Every Thursday I coach a group of runners at the Edmondscote track in Leamington
Spa. They have a broad spectrum of abilities, and ambition, so I give a choice of three programmes; ranging
through Silver, Gold and Platinum 'medals'.
Recently I introduced a new
'Bronze Medal' session for beginners. Having
new runners join our group has bumped the numbers up to around 20 / 25. I am proud to say that we are
now the largest group of adult runners on the track.
Having so many runners on the track at the same time is really great. :-) The only problem is
that with 4 different sessions, it is difficult for each runner to remember what they are supposed to be doing!
Adding to the problem is my 'boredom avoidance system' - always having a different programme each
week.

I have therefore decided to name each track session to aid memory and avoid repetition. After 5
years of track programmes there are obviously duplications. Naming each session will identify the workout more
easily.
I have tried to come up with snappy names such as 'Gut Buster', 'Leg Wobbler' or 'Bone Braker',
that describe the programme as accurately as possible. This weeks track session is 'Lightning Laps with a Greased Lightning
Finish'. This is relatively one of the 'easy' ones. :-)
